A warm pause in cool weather
With autumn, days in Istanbul grow shorter, and wind and rain empty the streets earlier. On days like these, an hour of warm marble, sauna and steam is one of the best breaks from the city’s pace. In Istanbul, the hammam has long been a way to warm up and rest on cold days.
Which ritual suits the season?
For a short, classic experience the Traditional Turkish Bath is a good start; the programme opens in the sauna. For a fuller cleanse, the Sultan Hammam adds a mineral mud treatment and a clay face mask to the kese and lavender foam. The Traditional Turkish Bath lasts 60 minutes and the Sultan Hammam 55 minutes.
Complete the ritual with a massage
Moving on to a massage once your body is warm extends the pause even further. If you would like hammam and massage together, compare the Traditional Turkish Bath Hammam & Massage Ritual and the Sultan Traditional Hammam & Massage Ritual. The cash payment discount conditions for massage packages are shown on the treatment page.
A few tips for your visit
Towels, slippers and a peştamal are provided by Essens; all you need is a warm layer for the way out. Rather than stepping straight out into the cold after the ritual, sit for a while in the relaxation room with tea or coffee. Weekend evenings can be busier, so it is best to send your request a few days in advance.
In Asmalı Mescit, close to the metro
Essens is inside the Westist Hotel, within walking distance of the Şişhane metro exit. Even on a rainy day it is only a short walk away. We are open every day from 11:00 to 23:00; send your preferred date and time through the form and our team will confirm on WhatsApp.
